A new local resource for moms and moms-to-be.
As a soon-to-be registered lactation consultant, I find nothing more rewarding than working with new mother-baby dyads to help them optimize and enjoy their breastfeeding relationship. With all of the contradictory and conflicting advice about breastfeeding that exists, it can be challenging to know where to start and what to do when breastfeeding may not be going as well as originally hoped. Breastfeeding can be HARD WORK!
For this very reason, I am very excited to announce the official launch of The Northumberland Breastfeeding Coalition , just in time for Canada’s celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (October 1-7).
Who We Are:
The Northumberland Breastfeeding Coalition is comprised of members from our community, who have come together with a common goal of supporting breastfeeding moms.
Our representatives/members include:
o HKPRD health unit (public health nurses)
o La Leche League leaders
o Registered lactation consultants
o Prenatal educators
o Social workers
o Naturopathic Doctors
o And most importantly…Moms!
All women in Northumberland County will feel supported to breastfeed.
Through advocacy, awareness, and support, our main goals are to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration in the area, while also increasing positive societal attitudes towards breastfeeding (i.e. public parks, beaches, restaurants).
